easy baked sweet potato fries
Updated: May 3, 2022
Are you team potato fries or team sweet potato fries?
The debate (certainly in my family) is often 'which are better' and 'why replace something also so delicious with something different?' I am stuck in the middle as I absolutely love both.
For the sweet potato fry lovers - These are so easy to make and guaranteed they won’t last long before they are all devoured. They are salty & sweet and healthier than most fries as they are baked and not fried.
Oven-roasted sweet potatoes are my favourite way of preparing and eating them! Taking them just that bit further in the oven so that the edges just start to burn and go gnarly....
Give me a big bowl of these and a generous drizzle of tahini dressing and I am happy as can be!
These go well with so many meals, I especially love these with a big salad and vegan sausages or as a side to veggie burgers.
Top these with refried black beans, chipotle or sriracha mayo, guacamole, tomato salsa and fresh coriander leaves to make the most amazing, loaded fries.
These are also naturally gluten-free and vegan.
THE INGREDIENTS.
SWEET POTATOES
I don’t peel my sweet potatoes as they taste good skin-on and are rich in fiber and other nutrients. Just make sure to give them a good scrub.
You are welcome to peel them though if you prefer.
Try to use organic sweet potatoes if possible.
OIL
I used an extra virgin olive oil but you can use any cooking oil you prefer.
SEASONING
Smoked paprika or garlic powder are a great additional seasoning to use on these fries, but feel free to use whatever you love.
SWEET POTATOES VS POTATOES
Unlike the regular deep-fried potato fries these sweet potato fries are definitely healthier. They are full of antioxidants and fiber. The orange sweet potato is an excellent source of vitamin C, manganese, copper and vitamin B6.

Serve and enjoy immediately with the tahini dip.
FOR THE TAHINI
Mix all the ingredients in a small bowl until smooth. The mixture will look a bit grainy at first, but just keep stirring. Add more water or lemon juice if required. Enjoy as a dip or drizzle over the fries.
