Eating Vegan in Hannover

Updated: Jun 27

This year we spent the last few days of the European Summer in Germany.

Everything was still green, and surprising warm. Sundowners in the garden, with a bowl full of mixed nuts, followed by a light dinner and a walk whilst still light outside... what is not to love.

I have been to Hanover a few times before, but this is the first time back since going vegan. I love the whole searching and trying new foods, and this trip did not disappoint.

If you do find yourself in Hanover, these are some places I recommend for good vegan food.

VIETAL KITCHEN

Vietal Kitchen is a trendy restaurant in the Oststadt area. This restaurant offers the most amazing Vietnamese dishes (or modern fusion on the traditional). Anything from rice paper spring rolls, noodle or rice bowls and pho to curries and salads.

This was definitely my favourite place to eat in Hanover. In fact we went there more than ones in our short stay, as there was so much on the menu I wanted to try. Almost half their menu is vegan.

I tried three different dishes and they were all amazing!

Honestly the photos do not do it any justice, you will just have to trust me.

If you are going for dinner I recommend booking a table. They also have great lunch deals.

Don't leave Hanover without going to Vietal Kitchen.

LAVASH DONER

Okay you can't go to Germany and NOT have a Doner. Thankfully Hannover has a place that makes vegan Doner , or rather Voner!

When I lived in Germany a Doner was one of my favourite take-aways. Best to find a private corner to eat it as it is always so messy! Worth the mess though. Thank goodness for wet wipes!

TIP! Make sure to take cash with you as they don't accept card payments.

Portions are big, so go hungry.

The Voner at Lavash are made with Seitan, but they have falafel and many other vegan options too.

I recommend trying the Voner Lahmacun or Voner Tasche.

LEINE EIS

When you find yourself eating ice cream at 10 in the morning, it must be a very attractive menu.

And if the ice cream is made with avocado than it can technically pass as a breakfast, right?

They have a few vegan ice creams, but I highly recommend trying their Avo-Orange-Mint and their Chocolate sorbet! Both are absolutely delicious! It is one of those situations where you will be unsure which one of the flavours you want to finish with. I can't remember which I chose.

How good do these look!

FRANCESCA & FRATELLI

A very pretty pink pizza place, serving stone-baked pizzas and has a few locations in Hannover.

The restaurant has a very pretty interior and a great vibe. Enjoy a vegan pizza and an Aperol spritz or G&T.

Unfortunately I forgot to take photos :( as we had such a great time.

A must go.

Give yourself some time to walk around too, as there are some beautiful parks and buildings in this city.

You might find another great vegan restaurant.

I can't wait to go back again someday soon to try new places.
