A warm cooked oats infused with golden milk spices. Serving this with sticky, caramelised banana is just wonderful!

GOLDEN MILK
Golden milk is a creamy hot drink infused with spices and is filled with nutrients and has anti-inflammatory properties. The main ingredient is turmeric which colours the milk in a golden yellow colour.
The spices I love using are turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and a pinch of nutmeg.
TURMERIC
It has powerful anti-inflammatory and immune-strengthening benefits. It's especially beneficial for women as it can offer support for hormone balance.
CINNAMON
Same as turmeric, cinnamon has anti-inflammatory properties and may also help lower blood sugar and reduce the risk of type-2 diabetes.
GINGER
Can help fight infections and also has anti-inflammatory properties.
A PINCH OF NUTMEG
mostly for the flavour.
BLACK-PEPPER (OPTIONAL)
It is said that black pepper helps improve the absorption of the turmeric nutrients in the body.

SHORT ON TIME
This breakfast can easily be turned into an overnight oats. Simply soak the oats overnight in the almond milk and spices and top with fresh banana slices and perhaps a drizzle of maple syrup. Delicious!
ADDITIONAL OPTIONS
Replace the almond milk with coconut milk (not canned)
Also delicious served with coconut flakes
Add chia seeds, pumpkin seeds or nuts for an additional nutrient boost.
Make sure to use a gluten-free certified oats if needed.
Add fresh berries, such as blueberries.

GOLDEN MILK OATS
A warm cooked oats infused with golden milk spices. Serving this with caramelised banana pieces is just wonderful!
SERVES 1
Time: about 15 minutes
INGREDIENTS
FOR THE OATS
40g old fashioned rolled oats
250ml almond milk (adjust to your liking. If using quick cooking oats you will likely need less liquid)
1/2 tsp ground turmeric (adjust to your liking)
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/3 tsp ground cinnamon
a pinch of nutmeg
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
FOR THE CARAMELISED BANANA
1 banana, peeled and cut in half lengthwise
1 - 2 tsp maple syrup
a bit of coconut oil for frying
INSTRUCTIONS
Add all the oats ingredients* into a small pot or sauce pan and cook for 8 - 10 minutes or to your liking. (*Adjust the amount of almond milk to suit the consistency you prefer).
In the meantime heat a small pan.
Once the pan is hot add the coconut oil. If the coconut is solid let it melt before placing the banana slices cut side down into the heated pan.
Fry the banana until they are a bit soft and starting to caramelise before drizzling with the maple syrup.
Flip the bananas and fry for another minute or so. Remove from the heat.
Dish the cooked oats into a bowl, top with the caramelised banana pieces and bit more maple syrup if desired.
Enjoy warm.
