marzipan hot chocolate

Updated: Jan 5, 2023

Rich, intensely chocolaty with subtle notes of marzipan. Christmas might be over but I am still in the festive mood.

I am sitting at my little kitchen table, watching traffic and people pass by. It is cold and rainy outside and I am just so thankful I went for my run earlier today whilst the sun was still out.

Tomorrow is the last day of the year and so much is going through my head at the moment. Reflecting back on this unusual year, it is no wonder I feel like a warming, comforting drink right now.

Being the chocolate and marzipan lover that I am, I am not sure why I have not thought of this before?

MARZIPAN.
LOVE IT OR HATE IT?

Store-bought marzipan which tastes artificially and overly sweet? No thank you!

Good quality marzipan, preferably homemade, where you can almost still see the ground almonds pieces and is not overly sweet? Love it!!

This hot chocolate has subtle notes of marzipan, which is not too overpowering.

Rich and chocolatey, it is also not overly sweet.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO MAKE THIS?
  • almond milk

  • cacao powder, unsweetened and organic if possible

  • chocolate protein powder, optional

  • date syrup or a soft date for sweetness, optional *

  • and a few drops almond extract, or to taste

Heat it all in a small saucepan, blend it until frothy (optional) and enjoy immediately.

* if you are using a high-speed blender you can use soft dates, alternatively you can use any sweetener of choice.
