This is the ultimate fudgy brownie with one of the best flavour combination ever, Chocolate and orange! So rich, chocolatey, fudgy, with zesty hits of orange, these brownies are just dreamy.

If you are looking for the best recipe for vegan brownies, you are in the right spot.

Vegan Chocolate Orange Brownies

Last week was my birthday, so naturally I baked something with my favourite flavour combination and this was the result! My chocolate & orange combo obsession continues...

My husband said these might just be the best brownies he has ever had. He might be bias, but I think I have to agree with him. I don't know if it's the flavour combination or the fudgy, gooey texture that make these so indulgent, all I know is that these are GOOOOD!

ALL YOU NEED ARE 10 INGREDIENTS TO MAKE THESE

  • vegan butter

  • cane sugar

  • vanilla extract

  • almond milk or milk of choice

  • 2 fresh oranges, juice & zest

  • cacao powder, unsweetened

  • all-purpose flour

  • baking powder

  • sea salt

  • dark chocolate (70% cacao or more) or dark chocolate chips

Chocolate Orange Brownies

I have been baking a LOT more the last few months than usually. This is simply down to the fact that I have been baking more for special occasions and baking when meeting with friends and family. I think I am making up for lost time during the lockdown.

I have to admit I am starting to feel all "sugared out". Is that even a word?

After this week, I seriously need to cut back on all the sugar intake.

But before we cut back on that sugar, let's make another batch of these beauties! They are totally worth all the calories!

Chocolate Orange Brownies Recipe

THIS IS WHY YOU WILL LOVE THESE.

THEY ARE

  • intensely chocolatey

  • so gooey

  • rich and decadent

  • fudgy

  • bursts of orange flavour

  • dairy-free

  • egg-free

  • vegan

You can bake a big batch, share with your family and neighbours (they will love you forever) and freeze the

left-overs (if there are any).

VEGAN CHOCOLATE ORANGE BROWNIES

So rich, chocolatey, fudgy, with zesty hits of orange, these brownies might blow your mind.

Serves 12 - 16 pieces

Baking tray size: 8 x 8 inch / 20x20cm or a round cake tin

Prep time: 15 min

Baking time: 25 - 30 min

Total time: 45 - 50 min

Can left-overs be frozen? Yes, they will keep 1 - 2 months.

INGREDIENTS

  • 75g vegan butter, melted and warm

  • 200g cane sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 40ml almond milk

  • 40ml orange juice, from fresh oranges

  • zest from 2 oranges

  • 75g cacao powder, unsweetened

  • 100g all purpose flour

  • 3/4 tsp baking powder

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 100g dark chocolate, 70% cacao or more (roughly chopped) or dark chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 175 C or 350 F

  2. Prepare a baking tray by greasing and lining it with baking or parchment paper.

  3. Whisk together the vegan butter with the sugar. Add the almond milk, orange zest, orange juice and vanilla paste and mix again.

  4. Add in the cacao powder, flour, baking powder and salt and gently mix until well incorporated.

  5. Fold in the dark chocolate pieces.

  6. Transfer the batter into the prepared baking tray and bake for 20 - 30min*. Test the cake by using either a baking needle, fork or toothpick and poke into the centre of the cake. If the fork or toothpick is covered in batter then it needs to bake a bit longer. If comes out relatively and a bit of crumbs it is good to go. Remember that the cake has chocolate chunks in so you could poke melted chocolate. Best is to test in two different areas.

  7. Remove the cake from the oven and let the cake cool in the baking tray for at least 20 min before removing the cake from the tin.

  8. Let the cake cool completely before slicing into squares.

NOTES

* Depending on your oven and the constancy you want:

  • If you prefer your brownies fudgy, bake for about 20min

  • If you prefer your brownies a bit more cakey, bake them for a couple minutes longer.

These brownies freeze well. Simply take them out to defrost at room temperature for an hour or so.
